Our farm

Our farm is split into three businesses:

D Chennells Ltd

Owns Highlands Farm and the surrounding land, and is responsible for all arable operations

Chennells Investment Management

Manages the commercial and industrial premises

D Chennells Rough Hill Farm

A partnership within the family that owns land in East Hanningfield

We currently farm around 1,000 acres of combinable crops including around 175 acres on a contracted basis. This includes winter wheat, winter and spring barley, spring oats, peas, linseed and grass for hay.

Our aim is to farm in a sustainable way. We combine traditional and modern techniques that enable us to farm profitably whilst caring for the environment.

We pride ourselves on maintaining our own up-to-date equipment and machinery including a Caterpillar tracked tractor, two New Holland T7 tractors, a Knight self-propelled sprayer and a Horsch drill.

The farm is under the Higher Level Stewardship, a government funded agri-environmental scheme that helps us maintain and enhance the countryside including nine wildlife ponds and several acres of woodland as well as bird seed mix and pollen and nectar mix to promote bird and wildlife.

We have a small herd of Norfolk Horn sheep, to help ensure the survival of one of the oldest breeds in Britain. Find out more about Norfolk Horns.

D Chennells Ltd invested in roof mounted solar panels in 2012, generating a proportion of the farm’s electricity through renewable energy.
